The Phoenix Flow

The Phoenix Flow is a Recovery Yoga/Breathwork/Movement Program, created by Heather Laffely, to support and strengthen those in Recovery from Addiction. The classes are designed for all, whether it is day 1 or decades in to Recovery. We practice Breathing Techniques, Mindful and Gentle Movement, and Coping Skills. We become, “Stronger Within-Stronger Without” ©

Phoenix Emerge is a class for those in the First 90 days of Recovery. The movement is extremely slow and gentle. The class never rises from a seated position. The focus is on Beginning to be comfortable with our internal thoughts and emotions, while in quietude with our breath. Lots of time to be silent with our thoughts and the class begins to introduce the idea of allowing the breath to be a tool to help with both our thoughts and emotions, while assisting our physical body. Classes always include gentle movement and activation to the spine in all directions to bring tone to the Central Nervous System, as well as, Twists and Other Yoga Postures that support a Vital Early Recovery Period.

Phoenix Flight is for those in Recovery, 90 days and beyond. The class builds on the practice in EMERGE, and begins to introduce yoga concepts and movements that create more activity and strength to the Physical body. This is NOT an Exercise class. It simply offers an opportunity to explore gentle, yet active positions, at times. There is the possibility of rising from a seated position, at some point, in each class. Classes are always designed to meet the needs of All Participants…They are ALL-LEVELS Classes.

Restorative Yoga

A gentle, supportive and meditative class that uses supported postures to deeply relax the body and support the nervous system, while reducing stress and restoring mind/body balance. Postures are held for extended periods, fully supporting the body’s proper alignment with yoga props like bolsters, blocks and blankets. Thus, allowing the body to fully relax and encouraging tension to release. This class encourages stillness, comfort and mindfulness and is accessible for all ages and abilities.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga targets deep connective tissues, like fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It is slower and more meditative, offering space to turn inward and tune in to the mental, the physical and the emotional sensations of the body.

Postures are held for a longer period of time than in other traditional types of yoga( typically 3-5 min). This allows stretching and lengthening to happen in those tissues rarely-used and/or accessed, while also teaching intuitive skills to breathe with/through the sensations of the stretches. Props such as bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps are used every class.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga, designed to be sitting in a chair or, at times, standing and using a chair for support. Adaptations of the traditional postures are instructed, while the body mechanics remain the same. It can improve flexibility, strength and mood, while reducing stress and joint strain.

Chair Yoga is wonderful for anyone with mobility limitations, those recovering from injury, those confined to a chair at work, for the senior community and for anyone seeking a very gentle, therapeutic approach to their practice.

Gentle Yoga

This gentle class is for those looking to stretch, connect to the breath, and practice traditional yoga postures, at a slow pace. We gently and safely encourage our muscle tissues to deeply lengthen and stretch, increasing range of motion and flexibility. Conscious intention and awareness are given to the breath, strengthening the nervous system and deepening the connection to mind and body. This class is designed for new, as well as, seasoned yogis looking for a mindful, gentle practice.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a meditative yoga practice, also known as “yogic sleep”, that encourages a consciousness residing between sleep and awake. It is a guided meditation that focuses on relaxation and/or conscious dreaming. The class is practiced laying down, comfortable and supported with props, where the mind, body and senses are guided by the instructor into a physiological state of rest. Yoga Nidra offers a break from the sensory overload often induced by busy life, screens and media. Among the many health benefits associated with Yoga Nidra are: improved sleep quality, stress-reduction, enhanced cognitive function, and a general sense of well-being. No previous experience necessary.
